Postcard Of Tregony, Cornwall From A Painting

A postcard of Tregony in Cornwall, England from an original water-colour by David Skipp.

The back of the postcard reads:
"Tregony was once a busy port, with the right to send two M.P's to Westminster. But the tin mines and china clay pits were the cause of their own destruction as silt clogged the River Fal. Despite Acts of Parliament aimed at stopping mining, the waters receded leaving the highest navigable point over four miles away."

Brighton Pictures From 1840 And 1880s

Not strictly postcards today but a follow on from yesterday's post of Brighton in the 1940s. These are two pictures of Brighton going back to the 1800s.

Above is the Sea Front and Aquarium, Brighton, East Sussex, England between 1883 and 1896 and below we have Brighton sea front with the chain pier in the distance by Frederick William Woledge, about 1840

St Mary's Island, Tyne & Wear, England Postcard

This is St Mary's Island, with it's lighthouse, and taken from an original oil painting by Ivan Lindsay.

St Mary's Island is at Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, England. The postcard reminds me personally of visits to the island as a child with my parents and climbing to the top of the lighthouse. The Island is reached by a causeway when the tides are right.
