1980s Postcard of Whitby, North Yorkshire, England
A 1980s postcard of Whitby, North Yorkshire with the picture taken from the Upper Bridge. The seaside town is situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk. Whitby has a combined maritime, mineral and tourist heritage, and is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey where Caedmon, the earliest English poet, lived.

In the USA, this is the Detroit River skyline as it looked in the 1960s.
The reverse of the postcard states:
"Here is a spectacular view of the City Beautiful from Dieppe Park in Windsor, Canada. Along the Detroit River are all the buildings of Detroit's ultra-modern Civic Center."

The rear of the card states:
"With its population of nearly 80,000 people, Cork is now the third largest city in Ireland. The world famous Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle with its traditional powers of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it, attracts many visitors to Ireland."

South-west Germany for today's postcard. The town is Heidelberg with Heidelberg Castle overlooking the river. The postcard is from the 1970s but no doubt looks pretty much the same today.

Postcard With Photo Of Caversham Bridge, Reading, Berkshire, England
Back to England again today with a postcard showing a photo of Caversham Bridge, Reading, Berkshire. The bridge crosses the River Thames as it makes it's way to London.
The first known bridge at this location was built between 1163 and 1231 and the present bridge was opened in 1926 by Edward Prince of Wales.
